Good Reads for Good Deeds!

We all do good in our lives and feel good about it most of the time. Why just ‘most of the time?’

  • Some good we do give us a proud feeling when we see our efforts making a difference!
  • Some good we do are well appreciated & leave us with a “feel good” emotion and motivation for a long time!
  • At times it just goes unnoticeable, neither impacting our nor others’ lives in any significant way!
  • Some really touch our hearts, but either does not achieve the final result or are not acknowledged in the way we had visualized!
  • Apart from these, what comes into the picture is the so-called “bad” that happens to us. This bad always makes us question the point of us doing good when we ourselves are stuck in a miserable situation.

These ‘push’ and ‘pullback’ thoughts are bound to occur innumerable times in our lifetimes! This makes us human, but countering those thoughts with optimistic thinking makes us a ‘good human.’

Let me narrate a story here. Angela was a normal office girl working 9 to 5 in the chemical industry. With nothing extraordinary going on in her life, she enjoyed her everyday work, greeted everyone she met with a smile, and enthusiastically lived each simple day. On a working Saturday, she went to keep the lab materials into the refrigeration unit towards the end of the day before calling it a day. To her dismay, the door of the unit self-locked, keeping her stuck in an extremely low temperature. She cried for help, but her voice could not reach anyone on the outside while people were busy packing and leaving for the weekend. She cried till she could cry no more and sat crouched on a corner losing all hopes. Unexpectedly the door opens, and a security guard comes to her rescue.

After settling down a bit, she enquired the guard on how he could trace her. The guard replied, “Ma’am, you wish good morning to me every morning you come and bid me bye with a smile when you leave the office in the evening. You also stop and ask about my family and health. No one has ever treated me like this. Today when I could not see you amidst the crowd of employees, I got tensed and started looking for you everywhere. I knew you would never leave without greeting me. I also sent the female janitor to look for you in the restrooms. Finally, I was able to spot you and am grateful to God that I was there on time.”

I believe that my message here is delivered without saying it out loud explicitly. We might find it hard to trust at times, but good deeds never go to waste! If a simple gesture can save a girl’s life, imagine the magic of righteous actions. We always talk about accepting changes that happen to us; today, I want to communicate that no matter what life and life changes take you through, never let go of your kind-heartedness.

I’ll end this with a drop of information for those who don’t know – Good Deeds Day is celebrated globally every year “to unite people from around the world in doing good deeds for others and the planet.” ☺

See you soon!
