Health is Wealth – A Cliché?
Has the famous saying ‘Health is Wealth’ become a cliché? If I were in 2019, I would have said yes! While trying to recollect, all I can see is that life back then was nothing but home ←→ office. Office calls surrounded working weekends, and in a race to prove that we are still living a ‘life’ amidst all the chaos, we usually spent our free days in malls eating all kinds of junk foods. Nonetheless, there were also people like me for whom sleeping and becoming a proud ‘couch potato’ was always a preferred choice. Either way, our health took a back seat. I may be speaking only for a small percentage of the population here. Still, even the people I see around me, including school-going children, business people, teachers, and other working individuals, led a similar life.
2020 came as an unforeseen change in our lives. It made us revisit our lives and lifestyles. Do we still wish to continue living the same way, or do we see this change as an indication to bring other much-needed life alterations?
We people are forgetful by nature, but it won’t be easy to forget what COVID-19, its (mis)management in some cases, and its after-effects did to us. We cannot undo the done, but we can surely imbibe what happened, rethink what we were thinking/doing about our life and health, and make amends per the lessons learned. As rightly said by Josh Billings, “Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it,” so is my health, my first wealth, and ‘Health is Wealth’ will never become a cliché for me. It is a truth that never loses its value for us till the time we are alive.
