Damn! It’s Hot!

And it ought to be. Just yesterday (i.e., 20th June 2021), we witnessed the hottest day of the year. The day aka summer solstice or June solstice happens when our Sun travels along its northernmost part in the Northern Hemisphere. This year the day coincided with Father’s Day. It marks the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, contrary to the June solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, where it marks the beginning of the winter.

Well, June has been incredibly hot in India. On account of the lockdown, many of us have stayed indoors, but that is also torture at times, considering the situation of electricity in some parts of the country. Unbearable high temperatures squeeze the cool off of you – bodily and temperamentally. Summers can get on your nerves, thus leaving you uneasy and irritated.

How to cope up with soaring temperatures?

It’s not easy, but few measures can help passage through the summer months tolerable.

  • Consume a lot of water and other fluids to keep yourself hydrated. While traveling even to nearby places, carry a bottle along.
  • Try staying indoors as much as possible. Staying without electricity is still better than going out in the scorching heat. Try planning your outdoor activities during cooler times of day, i.e., during the morning or evenings and after. While indoors, try sitting in a cool and dark room (with curtains or blinds drawn).
  • Park your vehicles under a shed. Sitting inside or on hot vehicles sucks all the liquid inside you (at least it feels so).
  • Dress yourself in light and loose clothing, preferably made from cotton or other natural fabrics. Wear skin-friendly clothes and jewelry (only if you have to).
  • Take a shower daily – use cool talcum powders if they suit your body. Wash your face off and on with cool water.

Take good care of your pets, kids, and elderly people during this weather.

The change in weather is a natural and continual phenomenon. We must change our lifestyle accordingly to enjoy the course.
